Current Fellows

The 2023-24 fellowship class is comprised of 276 fellows sponsored by AAAS, the Moore Foundation and partner societies. Of these, 38 serve in Congress, one at the Federal Judicial Center, and 237 in the executive branch among 19 agencies or departments. Among those in Congress, six are part of AAAS’ new AI Rapid Response Cohort.

Affinity Groups

2023 in Review: Greetings from the Director

AAAS Launches STPF Rapid Response Cohort in AI to Support Policy Development in Congress

With record speed, a new artificial intelligence fellowship placement was conceived and launched in just two months. The host offices include: U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs; Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.); Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.); Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.); Sen. Mike Rounds (R-S.D.); and Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.).

STPF 51: Welcoming the new class of fellows

This month, the 51st class of STPF fellows began their year in Washington. This year’s cohort -- including Carlos Martinez, Shakira Grant, Bek Petroff, Jacqueline Smith and Alvin Tran -- comes to their fellowships from widely varying backgrounds, but with a shared vision for applying their scientific training and expertise to help inform federal policymaking. “I have to tell you, we’re living in a golden age of science. We know more about the universe, our planet, and ourselves than we’ve ever known before.”
