AAAS Annual Meeting to celebrate 50 years of STPF and science policy

An ardent fan of the outdoors and camping, Leanna Sweha (1965-2022) lent her skills and knowledge to agricultural policy, legislation, international relations and more. She also dedicated many years to the Legal Services of Northern California, assisting at free legal clinics as a volunteer attorney. As an STPF fellow from 1993-95, Leanna was at the USAID Bureau for Europe and Newly Independent States.
A proud member of The Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M, Gary Ziehe (1960-2022) was a lifelong public servant and mentor to many professionals at the Department of Agriculture (USDA). He served as a fellow from 1993-94 in the office of former Sen. Pete Domenici. In 2001, he became the first executive director of the Valles Caldera National Preserve. He later served as a regional range program manager in the USDA Forest Service Southwestern Regional Office in Albuquerque.

Congrats to Susan Monarez (2006-07 Executive Branch Fellow), now deputy director of ARPA-H (Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health. “My STPF fellowship was the catalytic fork in my career path that has led me to job opportunities and experiences I could never imagined nor likely achieved without it.” She will assist in the agency's development of high-impact health and medical science and technology.
