Fellowships bring much-needed expertise to lawmakers

Since 1973, STPF has provided scientific expertise to US policymakers in Washington. In partnership with other scientific organizations, STPF brings more than 250 scientists and engineers each year to work in congressional offices, executive branch agencies, and the federal judiciary.

The new Director of Scientific Communications at the American Lung Association is Vince Tedjasaputra, 2019-21 fellow at NSF. "My time as an STPF felllow sharpened my skills in translating science for decision-makers. As a lung disease researcher-turned communications professional, the fellowship gave me the confidence to cold-pitch a job description that matches my skills to an organization aiming to improve engagement with diverse audiences on lung disease research."
