50th Class of AAAS S&T Policy Fellows Embarks Upon Year of Service

An intensive orientation kicked off the year for the 50th class of STPF fellows. Held Sept. 1-13 at the beginning of the fellowship year, the orientation was imbued with wisdom from science policy veterans – including alum fellows – on how they can contribute to science policy that draws from diverse perspectives and yields benefits for all.

So, in a coalition including AAAS, Congressman Jim – aka “Father Goose” – Cooper pioneered the Golden Goose Award to highlight the critical nature of such research. He is set to retire at the end of this term and thanks to his legacy, the award will continue to elevate research that can change lives.

After two years as a fellow at the Veterans Administration, Maciej Gonek has joined the Veteran Access Program at Evolve Foundation. “I had a chance to use the passion, knowledge and skills that I cultivated as an STPF fellow to join Evolve. To relieve widespread suffering, I hope to drive adoption of astonishingly promising MDMA-assisted psychotherapy for Veterans with PTSD if approved by the Food and Drug Administration.”
