Leslie Brooks is originally from Nashville, TN and graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012. Going into veterinary school she was interested in focusing on public health and One Health once she became a veterinarian. Upon graduating veterinary school, though, she went into small animal private clinical practice as she was not accepted into the Centers for Disease Control Epidemic Intelligence Service. While working as a clinical veterinarian, she found another way to utilize her public health and One Health skills- collaborating with a local non-profit working with pet-owners experiencing homelessness, crisis, and financial hardships. It was through her work with this non-profit that she became more interested in the social sciences and in improving policy development and implementation. She loves to spend time outdoors, go for bike rides, explore on her kayak, learn about new concepts and ideas through reading, and traveling the world. She has been to Australia, Kenya, the Philippines, The United Arab Emirates, Guatemala, Honduras, and Brazil.
